Standard Oven Dimensions

By Kevin Sorby | Kitchen Designer & Cabinetmaker

The standard built-in oven dimension is 597 mm (59.7 cm) wide x 597 mm (59.7 cm) high x 570 mm (57 cm) depth. It is designed to fit into a standard oven cavity of 600 mm (60 cm) wide x 600 mm (60 cm) high x 580 mm (58 cm) depth.

Other common oven widths include:

  • 700 mm (70 cm)
  • 760 mm (76 cm)
  • 900 mm (90 cm)

Oven Clearance & Accessibility

Built-in ovens fit tightly into their cabinetry (often leaving only a few millimeters of air gap). Consequently, a GPO (power point) protruding from the wall or back panel will physically block the oven from sliding into place.

Manufacturer installation guides explicitly state that the power point or connection must be accessible once the appliance is fully installed. For this reason, it is best practice to mount the GPO in an adjacent cabinet. This allows you to safely switch off or unplug the oven without having to pull the heavy appliance out of its housing.

Wall Ovens with Separate Grill / Double Ovens

Wall ovens with separate grills or double ovens are typically 600 mm (60 cm) wide x 890 mm (89 cm) high.

Compact Ovens

Compact ovens (steamers, built-in microwaves, etc.) are typically 600 mm (60 cm) wide x 450 mm (45 cm) high.

Standard Freestanding Oven / Range Dimensions

Standard sizes for freestanding ovens or ranges (gas or electric) come in various common widths:

  • 540 mm (54 cm)
  • 600 mm (60 cm)
  • 700 mm (70 cm)
  • 800 mm (80 cm)
  • 900 mm (90 cm)
  • 1000 mm (100 cm)
  • 1100 mm (110 cm)
  • 1200 mm (120 cm)

These are nominal dimensions (i.e., they are approximate rather than exact), as different manufacturers have varying standards.
